The Eternal Kingdom

In Daniel 2 we read about Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and Daniel’s interpretation of it. The rock that struck the statue and destroyed it was representative of a kingdom. That kingdom would come in the future after kingdoms that followed Nebuchadnezzar’s rule and it would fill the earth. Then in Mark 9:1, Jesus promises that the kingdom was going to come, it was going to come with power, and many of the disciples present with Him would see that kingdom.

As most bible students know, Acts chapter 2 is where the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles and they began to speak in languages that they did not learn. Yet the people present heard these men speaking in their native languages. This is the kingdom coming in power. Then came preaching and baptism. On that day 3,000 were added to their number. These are the beginning of the New Testament church, the kingdom of prophesy and of promise. We understand this to be the kingdom as in Colossians 1:13, christians have been transferred into the kingdom of His Son. So the kingdom exists today, it is His church.

In Ephesians 1:20-23, Jesus is currently reigning. Reigning over what? His kingdom, the church, of which He is the Head and we are the members. When the end of time comes, the kingdom will remain. We see in Hebrews 12:25-29 that God will once again “shake” the earth and also the heavens, removing those things that can be shaken. The kingdom will remain. We have a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

Jesus will then turn that kingdom over to God the Father, 1 Corinthians 15:20-28. Are you in the kingdom?
